Why replace the water pump

On a KA24DE the water pump is the component most likely to cause an overheating condition as the engine ages. A failing bearing can let the impeller wobble, and a worn seal lets coolant escape past the shaft. Both show up as a slow coolant loss long before the pump fails outright. Replacing it with a pump built to the factory spec restores proper flow through the block and radiator.

Installation tips

Drain the coolant, remove the drive belt and pump, clean the mating surface on the block completely, and torque the new pump evenly. Refill with fresh coolant and bleed the system thoroughly, since the KA is known for trapping air at the thermostat housing.
