Pulling the fuel pump on an S13 almost always ends with a seal that will not go back in. Why replace it

After decades of fuel exposure the factory O-ring either cracks or swells to the point that it no longer seats in the groove. Reusing a worn seal lets fuel vapor leak into the cabin through the pump access cover, which is both unpleasant and unsafe. A new O-ring restores the seal between the fuel pump assembly and the tank.
