ISR Performance Thermostat - Nissan SR/KA - 60 Degree

The ISR Performance 60 degree thermostat for the Nissan SR20DET and KA24DE is a colder-opening thermostat for engines that make more heat than stock. Where the factory thermostat opens at 76.5 degrees Celsius, the ISR unit opens at 60, letting coolant circulate through the radiator sooner and helping the engine settle at a lower operating temperature.

How a colder thermostat helps

Once the engine is fully warmed up, the ISR thermostat opens at a lower temperature than a standard thermostat. Coolant starts flowing through the engine earlier in the heat cycle, which reduces and then maintains cooler engine temperatures. On a high-performance SR or KA, that means more margin before heat builds to the point of pulling timing or risking detonation.

Who should run it

Turbocharged KA24DE builds, SR20DET swaps and any 240SX that sees track or drift use where sustained high temperatures are a concern. It is a sensible addition alongside an aluminum radiator and electric fans rather than a fix for an undersized cooling system on its own.

Install

Drain enough coolant to drop the level below the thermostat housing, replace the thermostat with a new gasket, then refill and bleed. If your engine management uses coolant temperature for fuel trim, be aware that a lower operating temperature can affect warm-up enrichment behavior.
